and another....

...picture of the one who runs our house these days. Today was one of those "I can't believe how big Warren is" days. I just kept looking at him, wondering how he has managed to become this little man that is now saying words. His vocabulary does now include,
bye bye-
(a form of) pretzel -
(a form of) cracker, which really sounds like the Spanish word for poo
peet-a-boo (peek a boo)
da- e (doggy)
momma! (FINALLY!!)
chee (cheese)
Suuu (shoe)
And some others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

These are from my first roll of BW film. I didn't have to edit these at all. I'm loving shooting with film, although I am still learning how to make the images as crisp and sharp as I did with digital, (which of course takes better equipment and I have the lowest end of film camera at the moment) I'm liking the look and how it makes me feel about my photos. It's been easier for me to  not worry about what others think about them, because I'm finally seeing what I want to see in the final product and I honestly don't worry or wonder if others like this look and if it will still get me clients. I'm loving what I'm doing and wanting to shoot because I'm excited with the results! I never felt 100% that way with digital. Of course, I hope others will enjoy my work too, but it's not a huge factor like it used to be. Yay for film! (ok that was a little tangent, haha)
Back to the point- I love Warren to pieces and don't want him to grow ANYMORE!

sand

Where we live, there is a commons area with a swing set in sand. We've had a few warmer days and whenever I let Warren start to venture on his own, he walks straight to that.

 ...and throws it on himself...

We don't have a beach, but we do have sand =)

there's a first for everything

K, you can't judge too harshly!! My VERY first roll of film, don't have a light meter (just went off the in-camera meter), and used cheapy  film from a pharmacy.

I've got to add a special shout out to Sharon Johnson Photography, who first got my mind reeling about trying out film. She was our wedding photographer, she started out digital and then made the switch to film. She had made a comment to me about how I would be good at film and should try it out. It was awesome coming from her, but I kind of pushed the idea to the back of my mind but would still stalk film photographers. Then again she sent me a link to Jonathan Canlas book he wrote on diving into film photography, (which is awesome BTW). I decided to give it a whirl and Sharon has been nothing short of AWESOME/AMAZING in helping me and answering all of my questions!!! She even sent me two rolls of her fav. film to try out =) She's just great and has the cutest lil fam ever. So thanks to Sharon & her work AND her inspiring me, I'm trying out something I didn't think I would ever take a second look at because it frightened me.  THANKS SHARON

With all of these, all I did to the photo was turn up the contrast a SMIDGE. Except for the palm tree, I didn't do anything to it.

These first ones are from Vegas. Warren sure does love his grandpa.

Practicing on people... my bro growing a stash for his work and warren mid "bunny face" I'll have to post a video of him doing it. SO CUTE.

I was looking for signs of spring. Found a few. (ok so technically there not all SIGNS of spring, but hey) ((I'm planning on doing a separate post on the trees blossoms)) I got a very awesome idea from a friend/photographer... whitney asay, documenting a certain tree as it blossoms into spring/summer:)

my new baby

Here she is, in all her glory ;) I'm about halfway through my first roll. It's quite the different experience not knowing if your pictures are turning out for sure because you're not able to see them right away. But here's to an adventure I'm excited about. Just from the first few days using it, it definitely makes you stop and really think about the image and composition. I grabbed a cheap roll of film at CVS Pharmacy in Vegas when we went down for the MWC Tourny, so I hope it's not too horrible, but I figured it was better to get something cheap first just in case I royally screwed all my exposures up =)

day 7 & 8

(I told ya I wouldn't be so good with doing these consistently. So here's two at once=) )
Day 7-A picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you
Day 8-Short term goals for this month and when you'll accomplish them

day 7 -
I don't have one person that has had the biggest impact on my life. I've had different people throughout my life have big impacts on me. Growing up it was always my dad. Now being married it's Seth. I definitely married up and he's the one that keeps me on the right track and always making sure I say my prayers and read my scriptures :)

day 8-
a short term goal I have for this month is to shoot my first roll of film & take warren's '1 year pictures' (3 months late).

film

I just purchased my first Film camera. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I've juggled around the idea of shooting film for a while now, but only to myself. I love the look of film. I just didn't think I could ever do it. It seemed to hard, time consuming... etc. etc. So I didn't do much research, I just drooled over film photographers work.

I'm not doing it because it's the "cool" and "different" thing to do. I'm trying it out because even after the THOUSANDS of hours I've edited my digital images, I still am not completely satisfied with the way they look. There's something missing to me and I can't figure it out. But I think shooting film will give me that answer. (I'm pretty sure it will) So I'm gonna give it a go just to see how I like it and if it will help me do what I want with photography.

After researching and learning all about it, I'm excited to cut out all those hours of editing. (Remember how I thought it would take more time and be harder? Well it actually cuts out almost ALL of your post processing) ((That is, if I can get it right in-camera))  =)

I love how tangible film images look. Sometimes I feel I could just jump right into the photo. There is so much depth and richness.

I tried to show Seth what I was meaning and he didn't get it, just told me only a trained eye may notice the differences between digital and film. I begged to differ. One of these days I'm going to take the same image with film and digital and then I'll show you what I mean ;)

Here's to a new adventure... I can't wait!!!
